The Lake County Division of Transportation is conducting a preliminary (Phase I) engineering study for the improvement of the intersection of Gilmer Road and Midlothian Road in Hawthorn Woods and unincorporated Lake County, Illinois. The Study will result in a recommendation to improve roadway and intersection safety and traffic operations; while minimizing environmental impacts. A conventional signalized intersection and a modern roundabout intersection will be evaluated as part of the study.

As of December 2014, preliminary engineering for the Gilmer Road – Midlothian Road intersection improvement is nearing completion. A traditional signalized intersection has been selected as the preferred alternative. LCDOT is anticipating a Public Hearing for the project in the Spring of 2015 where we will present the preferred alternative.
